Prep is a full-time program that runs five days per week, from 8:45am to 2:45pm each day. It is designed to support children to gradually transition from home and kindergarten through the use of age appropriate teaching and learning opportunities. At Baringa we begin the transition process during the year prior to prep by working closely with kindergartens to connect with both your child and your family through play-based activities. It is important to enrol early in the year prior to prep to ensure your child participates in all our transition opportunities. Please begin by dropping an enrolment application to our school office at your earliest convenience. We recognise the importance of family involvement in students' educational success and invite prior to prep parents to contact our Early Years Deputy for any questions or support.

Enrolment age variations

Children must be 5 by 30 June in the year they enrol.Use the online calculator to see when your child can start Prep. Simply select your child's month and year of birth.

Parents enrolling their child in school have the option of an early or delayed start. Enrolment age variations may be due to a child's development and readiness, and could improve their ability to learn.

Read more about early and delayed entry to Prep and allocation of state education.

Prep transition statements

As the school year concludes kindergartens will progress Transition statements to schools to assist in the preparation for the successful transition to Prep of children and their families.

Parents sign and consent to the Kindergarten teacher passing on the Transition statement to a school on their behalf and also for the school to contact the Kindy for a discussion.

What is a transition statement?

Towards the end of a kindergarten year a Transition statement is developed by Kindergartens in consultation with families.

The Transition statement provides a snapshot of each child’s learning and development and includes valuable information to:

  • identify each child’s strengths and interests; and
  • ensure each child is appropriately supported for a positive start to school.

Please ensure that your kindergarten provides a transition statement.
